ARINC Direct Xplore is a comprehensive, yet simple and flexible Iridium-based communication solution especially designed for the Business and General Aviation (B&GA) customer. This small, lightweight and compact hardware unit is integrated with a supporting suite of innovative software applications and services developed by ARINC Direct. It is capable of supporting two simultaneous channels of Iridium voice and/or data services.

Xplore users will be fully integrated with ACARS functionally using the ARINC Direct App and the AD Connect VoIP App on their IPad or IPhones. The ARINC Direct App is a valuable tool to help the on-the-go pilots increase their effectiveness. Customers will have up-to-the-minute access to flight plans, weather, flight plan packages and airport charts in an easy to use format.

Xplore Hardware Specifications

The XPLORE unit includes two of the latest Iridium L-Band Transceivers, the 9523 LBTs interfacing to a built-in RF Combiner-Splitter, enabling the system to use only one Iridium antenna for dual channel operation, a SiRFstar IV GPS receiver, a dual band (2.4GHz & 5.0GHz) 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi AP module and an integrated 5-band GMS-GPRS/EDGE/UMTS radio Modem.

At its core, the XPLORE unit’s Telephony board is powered by a custom designed, highly efficient 600MHz BlackFin embedded processor, and it is augmented by a 1.8GHz Intel Atom N455 single core processor based AUXiliary services board. It also provides significant variable capacity memory for application hosting via (32 GB) Compact Flash drive and (480 GB) SSDs.

Note:
The LAN, WAN and the Power cables and wiring assemblies will have the Xplore mating connectors on one end and will be “open” at the other end, with wires labeled with applicable signal names for easy termination to the target connectors or breakout panel.

There are two (2) (MIL –DTL-38999 Series I 41-pin circular connectors at the back of the Xplore unit:

  • J2 - LAN: Mating to Amphenol MS27467T21F41P 41-pin circular connector
  • J3 - WAN: Mating with Amphenol MS27467T21F41PA 41-pin circular connector
Need to use applicable “Straight RFI/EMI Shield-Sock Shrink Boot Back Shell” adapter kits with the above external circular mating connectors. Example: Glenair AS85049/49 or its replacement.

Other interface connectors at the back of the Xplore unit:

  • P2 - Power: Hirose Push Pull, Size 6, 3-Pin Circular connector, Plug: LF07WBP-3S
  • J1 - GPS: LMR-240 cable terminating with ASM-1504 (SMA-Male)
  • J4 - Iridium: LMR-240 co-axial cable terminating with TNC Male

4. Antennas:

Possible dual mode TSOed Iridium-GPS antenna selections may include:
